What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is actively being present and noticing your surroundings. It is a practice that helps calm our minds down. Our mind often takes us to many places. By letting your brain wander, anxiety and stress start to pile up and prevent us from staying laser-focused on the task at hand.
How does it help?
When your mind is present in the moment, you are aware of how you feel. If they are negative thoughts, you learn to let them go one step at a time, compared to letting your thoughts wander. You may also become more productive as the amount of stress and anxiety is slowly disappearing!
“STOP” Practice
Whenever you feel stressed and overwhelmed, try this “STOP” method!
S: Stop
Stop thinking. Stop doing. Be mindful of everything around you.
T : Take a breath
Breathe in and out. Find out which breathing exercises best suit you and execute accordingly!
O : Observe
Observe your surroundings. Observe how your brain and body is feeling at that moment. Take the time you need and focus on every detail.
P : Proceed
If you have a task, take it slow and finish one at a time. Set a to-do list and give yourself breaks.
