1. “Día De Los Muertos” or “Day of the Dead” is the day Mexicans or Latin Americans gather to memorialize the deceased. This festival is celebrated on 1-2 November of every year. People dress up fancy as ghosts or skeletons with celebrating parade. Moreover, there are music, feast, and warmth. 🕯️
2. “僵屍” (jiāngshī) “jiangshi” or what some Thais call “Phi Kong Koi”. Many may feel familiar from Mr. Vampire movie where there is a Chinese hopping vampire dressed in official government garments hopping, chasing, and biting people. But do you know the origin story of the jiangshi folklore? Once in a Chinese dynasty, people conveyed corpses in large numbers at once, so monks tied rods under corpses armpit in an upright position lined up to be carried back to their hometown. On the way back, corpse’s movements appeared like it was hopping confusing people throughout the way. 🏃
3. “Mae Nak Phra Khanong” The Thai classic ghost folklore in which “Nak” died during pregnancy while her husband was sent to war. But do you know Mae Nak folklore is based on a true story? It is believed that “Nak” story matches with the reign of King Rama III and later on the story was developed into “Mae Nak Phra Khanong”. ❤️
4. “Dracula or Vlad III” Though many people dress up as Dracula on Halloween, we will take you through the origins of Dracula. Turning back the clock to the middle ages in Europe where it is Romania at the present, there was a ruthless ruler who became an inspiration of Dracula named Vlad III.
