4 Simple ways to give your eyes a break

During midterm exam season, many people have started hitting the books. It’s important to take care of our eye health, as excessive reading, focusing, or screen time can lead to eye strain, eye pain, and dryness, which may affect reading efficiency as well. 📚✏️

Today, NEXKY would like to encourage everyone to observe their own eye health for any signs of strain and to learn how to protect our eyes. Let’s dive in! 👁️💊✨

▪️Step one: Check if you’re experiencing eye strain from overusing your eyes by looking out for these symptoms:

⭕️ Dry eyes

⭕️ Sensitivity to light

⭕️ Eye irritation, itching, or burning

⭕️ Blurred vision

If you notice any of these symptoms, it’s important to alleviate and treat them right away‼️ Here are 4 simple ways you can give your eyes a break: ✨

1️⃣ Adjust screen brightness and font size 🔆🔠

If you enjoy reading on electronic devices like smartphones or iPads and experience eye strain, try adjusting the screen brightness to suit your environment and increasing the font size to reduce the need for intense focus.

2️⃣ Blink more often 👀👓

Blinking more frequently helps reduce dry eyes. Each blink releases tears that lubricate our eyes, helping to relieve dryness.

3️⃣ Look around you 🌲🏠

If you don’t want to take a long break from reading, start by putting the book down and looking around. Focus on green objects like trees for at least 3-5 minutes to give your eyes a rest. Alternating between looking at distant objects and reading can also help your eyes relax.

4️⃣ Close your eyes for a bit 😌☁️

Taking an eye break doesn’t mean napping, but simply letting your eyes rest from prolonged focus. Try closing your eyes for 10 seconds, counting slowly in your mind, or meditate for 1-3 minutes to reset both your brain and eyes.

If you experience symptoms beyond these, and taking breaks doesn’t help, be sure to consult a specialist for proper treatment. Finally, give your best in your exams, and don’t forget to take care of yourself!
